Whether you're a teacher looking for a fun classroom activity or you're a parent who loves spend quality time with your kids, riddles are a fun, easy and free way to do that. It's the perfect activity for killing time on a rainy day too. The following 10 fun riddles will have your kids scratching their heads to come up with the solutions.

Numbers

The first riddle is all about math. Or is it? The riddle is: "I am an odd number. Take away a letter and I become even. What number am I?" The answer is seven which is an odd number, and if you take the "s" out of the word "seven," it becomes the word even.

Umbrella

Here's one that may take a few minutes to figure out: "If a brother, his sister, and their dog weren't under an umbrella, why didn't they get wet?" The answer is that it wasn't raining.

Cereal

Ask your kids this one, and you'll most definitely get the wrong answer first: "David's parents have three sons: Snap, Crackle and…? Like the old Rice Krispies cereal ad, your kids will most likely say "Pop." However, the answer is David.

Mary's Children

This one sounds like it's going to be a complicated math problem, and while it will make you think, it's actually not hard at all. "Mary has 4 daughters, each of her daughters has a brother, how many children does Mary have?" The answer is five (four daughters and one son).

Eyes

Ask your kids "What has four eyes but can't see?" They're sure to answer with all sorts of ideas about people with glasses or strange animals, but what they won't realize right away is that this riddle is a play on words. The answer: Mississippi.

Water

This one will make you groan when you hear the answer, but "What is full of holes but still holds water." If you guessed the answer is a sponge, you are correct.

Geography

This one's pretty good, and it'll take some thinking to come up with the answer: "I have streets but no pavement. I have cities but no buildings. I have forests yet no trees. I have rivers yet no water. What am I? The answer is: a map.

Here's another one that really makes you think: "As I walked along the path, I saw something with four fingers and one thumb, but it was not flesh, fish, bone or fowl."

Walk On Water

This one has a poetic quality to it: "A precious stone, as clear as diamond. Seek it out whilst the sun's near the horizon. Though you can walk on water with its power, try to keep it, and it'll vanish within an hour." The answer is ice.

And last but not least, this one is short and simple, but coming up with the answer can be pretty tough. "What answer can you never honestly answer yes to?" It's hard to think of an answer you can never say yes to, but that question (and the answer to the riddle) is: "Are you asleep."
